What it does

Covers the release lever
The raised cover on the ring sits over the release lever of the J1772 plug, so the plug stays latched to the adapter and the car keeps charging until you come back.

Held in place by the car
Tesla cars hold the charging adapter in the charge port while the car is locked. The ring sits between the car and the thicker part of the plug handle, so it stays put until the car lets go of the adapter.

Two in a pack
Each pack holds two locks in the color you choose: one to keep with the adapter, and one for a second adapter or a second car in the household.
Overview
At a J1772 station, a Tesla charges through an adapter that sits in the car’s charge port with the station’s plug latched onto it. Anyone walking past can press the plug’s release lever and pull it off, which ends the charge, and a busy station is where that happens.
This lock is a ring that sits around the joint between the plug and the adapter, with a raised cover over the release lever. While the car is locked it holds the adapter in the port, so the ring cannot be slid off and the lever cannot be pressed. When you unlock the car and take the adapter out, the ring slides off the end.

Questions about this product
How do I know if my adapter has a flange?
Look at the body of the adapter between the end the J1772 plug latches onto and the end that goes into the car. If it is a smooth tube, the lock fits. If a raised ring or lip stands out around it, it does not.
Does it stop someone taking my adapter?
The car already holds the adapter in the port while it is locked. What the lock stops is the station plug being unlatched and pulled off, which is what ends a charge early at a shared station.
How do I take it off?
Unlock the car so the charge port releases the adapter, pull the adapter out with the plug still latched to it, and slide the ring off. Then unlatch the plug as usual.
Is it worth using at home?
At home a car is rarely unplugged by someone else, so it earns its place at public and workplace stations. Keep it with the adapter so it is there when you need it.
