Privacy policy

We collect what we need to send help to the right place, and we pass it to the local operator handling your request. You can ask us to delete it or to stop sharing it for advertising.

The short version

When you ask us to arrange a service, we collect your contact details, where the vehicle is, and what is wrong with it. We pass those to the local operator who will contact you. That is the core of it.

We also use advertising and analytics tools that set identifiers in your browser. You can opt out of that, and we honor the Global Privacy Control signal automatically.

We do not sell your information for money. We do not run a data brokerage.

What we collect, why, and who gets it

This is the notice we are required to give you at or before the point of collection. Every category we collect is listed, with what we use it for, whether it is sold or shared, and how long we keep it.

  • We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
  • We do not collect sensitive personal information as that term is defined by California law, and we do not use it to infer characteristics about you.
  • We do not ask for a Social Security number, a driver's license number, or payment card details on this site.

Where the information comes from

Almost all of it comes directly from you, when you fill in a form or call us.

The rest comes from your browser as you use the site: the pages you looked at, the site that referred you, and any campaign parameters in the link you followed.

Sale and sharing, in plain terms

California law defines "sale" broadly enough to cover a disclosure made for other valuable consideration, not just for money, and defines "share" as disclosure for cross-context behavioral advertising. We would rather explain what we do than argue about which label applies.

Passing your request to a local operator is the service you asked for. If that hand-off is treated as a sale or a share under your state law, you can opt out — but opting out of it means we cannot arrange the service, because there is nobody to send it to.

Our advertising and analytics tools are a separate matter. That is the sharing the opt-out on this site is for, and opting out of it does not affect the service you receive.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of these rights. We honor them for every US resident who asks, rather than checking your state first.

  • Know what personal information we have collected about you, and why.
  • Get a copy of it in a portable format.
  • Correct it if it is wrong.
  • Delete it, subject to the records we must keep — a consent record in particular, which exists to protect you as much as us.
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information.
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these. Same service, same price.

How to make a request

Email us at the address in the site footer with the subject "Privacy request". Tell us which right you are exercising and give us enough information to find your records — normally the phone number or email you used.

We will acknowledge your request and respond within the time your state law allows. For an opt-out of sale or sharing, that is no more than 15 business days.

An authorized agent can act for you. We will ask for proof you authorized them.

We may need to verify who you are before acting on a request to access or delete. We will not ask for more information than we need to do that.

Opt-out preference signals

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we process it as a valid opt-out of sale and sharing automatically. You do not have to do anything else, and we do not ask you to confirm it.

The site tells you when it has processed your signal, and you can confirm the state of your opt-out at any time from the opt-out page.

How long we keep things

We keep a record of your request for as long as we need it to arrange the service, to answer questions about it afterwards, and to meet our legal obligations.

Consent records are kept for as long as we might need to evidence that we had your permission to contact you.

We do not keep information for longer than the purpose it was collected for requires.

How we protect it

Information travels to us over an encrypted connection and is stored in access-controlled systems. Only the people who need it to handle your request can see it.

No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise. If a breach affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.

Other state privacy laws

Comprehensive privacy laws are now in force in a growing number of US states, including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah and Texas among others. The rights they grant overlap substantially with those above.

Rather than maintain a different policy per state, we apply the same rights to everyone. If your state grants you something this policy does not mention, ask us and we will honor it.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when what we do changes, and the effective date at the top will move. Material changes will be flagged on the page.
