Car anti-theft devices for keyless fobs and steering wheels
Car anti-theft devices each close one route to a theft. A Faraday box or pouch keeps a keyless fob from being picked up and relayed to the car from inside the house, and a steering wheel lock stops the wheel turning and shows anyone looking in that the car will take time to move.

Buying guide
Match the device to the way cars are stolen
Keyless entry and relay theft
A car with keyless entry unlocks and starts when it detects its fob nearby. In a relay theft, one device picks up the fob’s signal from inside a home and a second device repeats it next to the car, which then opens and starts as if the owner were standing beside it.
A Faraday box or pouch is lined with signal-shielding fabric, so a fob inside it cannot be reached. It only works closed: a lid left ajar or a flap not pressed shut leaves a gap. Test it once by walking to the car with the fob inside and trying the door.
A box at home, a pouch on the move
A box by the front door is the easy habit: keys go in when you come home. A pouch goes in a bag or a pocket, for the office, a restaurant or a hotel, and a larger one holds a phone as well.
Steering wheel locks
A steering wheel lock stops the wheel being turned far enough to drive, and it is visible from outside the car, which is most of its value: a thief choosing between cars skips the one that will take longer. A bright color helps it be seen.
Bar locks clamp across the rim of the wheel. Cable locks wrap a steel cable around the wheel and anchor it to something fixed in the car, such as the seat belt buckle, which also stops the wheel being cut free of the lock.
Layers work better than any one device
No single device makes a car impossible to steal. What works is making a car slower and more visible to steal than the one next to it: a fob kept in a box, a lock on the wheel, a car parked in a lit spot.
Frequently asked questions
Does a Faraday box work for every key fob?
A Faraday box is designed to block the radio signals keyless fobs use. Test yours: put the fob inside, close the lid fully, walk to the car and try the door handle. If the car unlocks, check the lid is closed, and contact us if it still does.
Is a steering wheel lock still worth using?
It is a visible deterrent that makes a car slower to drive away, which is why many thieves pass over a car that has one. It works alongside the car’s immobilizer and keyless protection rather than instead of them.
Will a Faraday pouch stop my phone ringing?
A phone sealed inside a working pouch loses its signal, so calls and notifications wait until it comes out. That is also the way to check the pouch: seal your phone inside and call it from another phone.
