At a glance

  • Steel cable core inside a padded sleeve that protects the wheel
  • Lock end fits into the driver’s seat belt buckle and covers its release
  • Red or black sleeve, visible through the windshield
  • Three keys included
  • Fits cars, SUVs, vans and pickups with a standard seat belt buckle

Before you use it

Take the lock off the steering wheel and out of the seat belt buckle before starting the car. Never drive with any part of it fitted.

What it does

The red lock wrapped around a car’s steering wheel, its cable running down toward the seat belt buckle

Anchored to the seat belt buckle

Wrap the cable around the steering wheel and pass the lock through its loop, then push the lock end into the driver’s seat belt buckle. The lock body covers the buckle’s release button, and only the key opens it again.

Steel cable, padded sleeve

A braided steel cable runs the length of the lock inside a padded fabric sleeve. The steel is what holds; the sleeve keeps it from scratching a leather, plastic or wrapped wheel.

Seen from outside

The red sleeve shows through the windshield and the side windows, which is the point: a lock a thief notices before trying the door does its job without being touched. The black version suits a dark interior.

Overview

A thief looking along a row of parked cars picks the one that will take the least time. This lock tells them from outside that yours will take longer: a padded steel cable wraps around the steering wheel, and its lock end goes into the seat belt buckle beside the driver’s seat, which ties the wheel to the car and stops it turning.

The steel cable runs inside a fabric sleeve, so it does not mark the wheel, and the lock opens only with its key. It is 27.9 inches long overall, and fitting it takes a few seconds once you have done it twice.

Compatibility

Fits cars, SUVs, vans and pickups with a standard seat belt buckle within reach of the steering wheel.

  • It uses the driver’s seat belt buckle while fitted, so it has to come off before anyone drives.

Questions about this product

Will it fit my car?

It fits vehicles with a standard seat belt buckle beside the driver’s seat and a steering wheel within reach of it, which covers most cars, SUVs, vans and pickups. The lock is 27.9 inches long overall.

Does it damage the seat belt buckle?

The lock end goes into the buckle the way a seat belt does and is released with the key. If the buckle ever does not latch or release smoothly afterwards, have it checked before driving.

How does it stop a thief?

A steering wheel that cannot be turned makes a car hard to drive away, and a lock that is visible from outside makes most thieves choose another car. It is a deterrent: no lock makes a car impossible to steal.

What if I lose the keys?

Three keys come with the lock. Keep one of them somewhere other than your car key ring, so a lost bunch of keys does not leave the lock stuck on the wheel.
