At a glance

  • Spring-loaded punch: press it against a side window, no swing needed
  • Recessed blade cuts a jammed seatbelt
  • Stick-on mount holds it within reach of the driver’s seat
  • Pull tab to grab it from the mount
  • Black or red

Before you use it

It breaks tempered glass only. Laminated side windows and windshields cannot be broken with it, so find out which windows in your car are tempered before you need to.
Keep it out of reach of children: it holds a blade and a spring-loaded pin.

What it does

Press, don’t swing

Take off the cap, press the tip firmly against a lower corner of a tempered side window, and the spring inside fires a hardened pin into the glass. It needs no swing and little strength, so it works from a cramped seat.

A blade for the seatbelt

The blade sits recessed in a notch under its own cover, out of reach of fingers. Remove the cover, hook the belt into the notch and push the tool along it: the belt parts under its own tension.

Mounted where you can reach it

The stick-on mount holds the tool on the center console, the dash or a door panel, within reach of a buckled-in driver. Clean the surface before fitting the mount so the adhesive bonds.

Overview

In a crash or a flood, a seatbelt can jam and the doors can refuse to open. This tool does the two jobs that matter in that minute: its recessed blade cuts through a seatbelt, and its spring-loaded punch shatters a tempered side window when pressed against it, with no room needed to swing.

It sits in a small stick-on mount on the center console or the dash, where a buckled-in driver can reach it, and pulls out by its tab. It breaks tempered glass, which many side and rear windows are made of; it cannot break laminated glass, used for windshields and in the side windows of many newer cars.

Compatibility

Breaks tempered side and rear windows. It cannot break laminated glass, used in windshields and in the side windows of many newer cars.

  • Check the marking in the corner of each window in your car to see which ones are tempered.

Questions about this product

Which windows can it break?

Tempered glass, used in many side and rear windows. It cannot break laminated glass, which is used for windshields and in the side windows of many newer cars. The marking in the corner of each window says which glass it is.

Where should I mount it?

Where you can reach it while seated and buckled in: the center console beside you, the lower dash or the driver’s door panel. Not the glovebox on the far side, and never the trunk.

Do I need strength to use it?

No. The punch is spring-loaded: you press the tip against the corner of the window until the spring releases, which takes a firm push rather than a swing.

How do I get to the blade?

Take off the cover over the blade, hook the seatbelt into the notch and push the tool along the belt. The blade is set back in the notch so it cannot catch a finger.
