What the state documents say
The registered owner of a vehicle that has been scrapped, dismantled or demolished sends the original Georgia title, issued in that owner name or properly assigned to them, to the Motor Vehicle Division Salvage Unit with a signed letterhead statement describing the vehicle; the division cancels the title and flags the vehicle identification number so it can never be titled again. If the license plate is still on the vehicle, it goes in too, with Form T-158. Cancel the registration with Form MV-18J before you cancel the insurance, to avoid fines and penalties.
