What the state documents say
A vehicle declared junk because it has been dismantled or destroyed has its Florida title surrendered to a tax collector office or license plate agency with JUNKED and the owner signature written on the face of the title, and no title fee is charged; if the title is missing, obtain a duplicate on Form HSMV 82101 first. Plates stay with the seller and never with the vehicle — surrender the tag at a motor vehicle service center if you are cancelling the insurance on it or leaving the state, otherwise move it to a replacement vehicle. File the Notice of Sale (Form HSMV 82050) within thirty days to take your registration off the vehicle.
